Whether you are a relative or friend of someone living at Arbory or simply looking for a worthwhile experience, there are lots of different and interesting ways that you can help out at our Home. From taking time to chat or read to someone to supporting staff with an activity, volunteering will make a real difference to the lives of our residents.

There are plenty of opportunities at Arbory for friendly and motivated volunteers. Whether you are able to make a regular commitment as a volunteer befriender or would like to offer your time on a more ad hoc basis, your can be sure that your contribution will be valued.
 
The benefits of volunteering do not stop with supporting the care of our residents. From enjoying a rewarding experience to enhancing your CV, you will get a lot out of it too!
 
So how can you help?
 
·         Become a volunteer befriender and help someone read or write a letter to a loved one, play a game of scrabble or take the time to enjoy a chat over a coffee
·         Provide an extra pair of hands during activity sessions
·         Chaperone resident outings
·         Assist our green-fingered residents in the garden
·         Serve morning coffee or afternoon tea
·         Accompany residents to dental or hospital appointments
·         Visit residents during a stay in hospital
·         Provide therapeutic treatments such as a manicure or relaxing hand massage
·         Help out on special occasions, for example at Christmas
 
Person Specification
 
We welcome volunteers from a diverse range of backgrounds. There is no educational qualification requirement, but the following qualities are essential:
 
·         Patient, tactful, understanding and an ability to be sensitive to other people’s moods and feelings, without taking things personally
·         Good communication skills, particularly an ability and willingness to listen
·         An interest in the older generation
·         An ability to put other people’s needs first
·         A good sense of humour
·         The ability to handle difficult and unfamiliar situations
·         Over 16 with an up to date Criminal Records Check (CRB)
